Located on the north coast of Spain, the stunning city of Santander, the capital of the autonomous community and historical region of Cantabria, provides a distinguished setting for those wishing to learn the Spanish language. Santander enjoys a mild climate even during the summer months and attracts international visitors year round. A peninsula juts out into the Bay with a medieval castle that captures the eye. During the summer, families and students flock to the beautiful beaches of Santander, and the city truly comes alive with festivities, concerts, galleries, bull fights and many other cultural events. Santander’s intimate surroundings make for a picture perfect language immersion destination.

Students participating in the Spain Study Abroad’s Santander programs will be provided with the opportunity to study in one of the most prestigious universities in Spain – the University of Cantabria (UC) or Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP). The University of Cantabria (UC) enjoys one of the most favorable staff to student ratios within Spain. The university has also offered summer courses in Spanish as a Foreign Language for well over two decades. Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), since its foundation in 1932, has also been considered the leading university in Spain in organizing courses in Spanish language and culture for international students studying abroad.

The Spain Study Abroad Santander program covers a wide range of subjects and is complemented by cultural activities: concerts, drama, art exhibitions, films, meetings with novelists, poetry readings, conferences and academic excursions around northern Spain, all of which give college students the perfect environment to vastly improve their Spanish language proficiency in a real university campus-based experience.

“I had an absolutely amazing experience with Spain Study Abroad!” said one of the participants in Spain Study Abroad’s Santander program. “I loved the city, and the people there are so nice. The program was well-rounded with a great variety of activities to help immerse you in the Spanish language and culture.”
